Southeast Ohio Chapter Meeting, Farm Tour, and Potluck

New Marshfield, OH

Sunday, June 30, 2019
3-6 p.m.

OEFFA members Ed Perkins and Amy Abercrombie have operated Sassafras Farm since the 1980s. They are the second oldest farm selling at the Athens Farmers Market and use organic farming methods but are not certified.

They grow a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and berries. At Sassafras Farm, the specialty is greens: lettuce, spinach, kale, and chard, which are grown year-round using homemade high tunnels in the winter. Guests of this farm tour will hear how cover crops are grown and will see how compost is made to maintain the soil's organic matter. Additionally, attendees will learn about various methods to control insect pests.

A potluck supper will follow after the tour, so please bring a dish to share and your own table service.
